Swiss Super League: top U21 talents

We take a look at some of Switzerland's most exciting U-21 talents, who could be headed for a top flight or second-tier European top flight.

It may not be the most important and relevant sport in the country, but Switzerland has been doing things in a successful and sustained manner for several years. Its national team is becoming more and more competitive, managing to export talent abroad so that its players can grow in more important and competitive football environments. Looking to the Swiss Super League is therefore commonplace for any scout in the second tier of Europe's top divisions, as was recently the case with Noak Katterback, the Basel left-back signed by Hamburg.

Perhaps we should take Fabian Rieder out of this equation, perhaps the best 21 and under player in the Swiss league, with a market value of 12 million euros, a talented left back who is likely to leave this summer for a bigger club.

We wanted to turn to our database to find some of the most interesting talents in Swiss football. To try to imagine which ones might be the object of desire of a higher league, we have to reduce the age filter to see who stands out under the age of 21.

Andy Diouf

At 19 years old, Andy Diouf is one of the most interesting midfielders in Swiss football and Basel's main young jewel, a player of great physical condition and with a great left foot for shooting and passing. Midfielder who plays in front of the midfielder and with great ability for dribbling and ball progression both by passing and driving.

Julian Vonmoos

Although he has only played 35% of the minutes, Julian Vonmoos is a more than interesting striker. A U19 and U21 international for Switzerland, Vonmoos is an atypical striker, still with problems in finishing but who links up very well with the game, generating dangerous situations in many possible ways. He generates 0.61 expected goals per 90 minutes, a very high figure for the minutes he plays and the reduced confidence within the team, behind three strikers who play much more than him.

Bledian Krasniqi

Kosovar player trained in the academy of Zurich, another midfielder with good ball handling who comes to the final third to generate unbalance. He has a very good first control and very good ability to maneuver and turn inside.

Two of the most complete young fullbacks are Daouda Guindo of St. Gallen (on loan from RB Salzburg) and Lewin Blum of Young Boys, with a great importance and impact in attacking plays (xG Chain). Always more offensive than solid in one-on-one play, they reach the back line well and are daring in the final meters, especially Lewin Blun.
