U-20 'alerts' Brazil and Argentina 2023: spotting new appearances

With the help of our 'Alerts' system, we discovered players who are on the rise in 2023 in Brasileirao and Argentina.

Vitor Roque, Alejo Véliz or Equi Fernández are just a few U-20 players from Argentina or Brazil who have accumulated experience despite their great youth and who have raised expectations in recent months. In a way, they are names that are already known, even with international experience. For a scouting department, it would no longer make sense to keep an eye on players who are excelling at the top level of Argentinian or Brazilian football. So it is time to anticipate the next appearances.

As we have explained on other occasions, with 'Alerts' we can be alerted of those players who debut in a championship, with their national team, who score goals or who see their performance increase. Here is a quick example to visualise the potential of the tool:

In our automated 'Alerts' system in our database we have observed interesting movements ranging from an increase in performance, a debut or the first goal in the league competition. Players who are gradually adding minutes and standing out in certain interesting metrics that inform us of the type of player, according to their position, who is developing. Or, as a different option, monitor talents who have made the leap to the first team after appearing as a standout in youth competitions.

Wesley

The latter is the case of Wesley, a Flamengo right-back who has established himself in the first team after excelling in Flamengo U20. At 19 years of age, he has been able to demonstrate his great attacking deployment, being one of the deepest full-backs in the Brasileirao 2022 and a very good percentage of completed crosses. Wesley was also recommended among the most promising U20 full-backs in Brazilian football in this previous review.

Brian Aguirre

A pure dribbler, who plays on both flanks, who at 20 years of age has become Newells' main figure in danger generation, assists and attacking contribution. A very specific player who plays very close to the flank to generate unbalance through dribbling.

Lucas Besozzi

A wide player with a great unbalanced game and who has already made his debut in the U20 Argentina, Besozzi has been putting in a good performance in the last few weeks. Playing for Central Cordoba, everything seems to indicate that Lanus will exercise an option to buy him back. He is a player with a great talent for overflow and diagonal shooting. His map of conduction and progressions exposes his way of playing and finishing plays. Player in permanent growth in Primera Argentina.

Lucas Beraldo

Perhaps there are not many centre-backs with more talent and personality to build the game and break lines from the pass than Lucas Beraldo, a 19-year-old left-sided centre-back from Sao Paulo. The player has started to jump on our alerts through his fantastic 2023, especially in a multitude of on-ball metrics, where he stands out well above average for the position in the Brazilian championship.

Modifying the centre-back lollipop to include on-ball metrics only, Lucas Beraldo is third in the championship in progressive passes completed, passes completed and passes into the opposition half, as well as 6th in generating danger through passing (xT) and engaging in possessions that generate xG (xG Build Up).

Two less surprising but equally valid cases to follow up on their talent are Gianluca Prestianni and Federico Redondo. The latter has already played 1000 minutes for Argentinos Juniors and explains why he has gained the confidence of Javier Mascherano at the U20 World Cup.

Federico Redondo

Gianluca Prestianni

The young generation of Velez Sarsfield's semi-finalists in the Libertadores is no longer including Maximo Perrone, a member of Manchester City's first team, but the talented youngster Gianluca Prestianni. On this radar we can see how in the last six games he is finishing and dribbling more than in total minutes.
