During the last two months we have developed new tools at driblabPRO that expand the resources we provide to our clients.

xG on Target (xGoT) and Finishing xGOT

These new metrics can be found under the player tab within finishing map visualization.

xG values the shot before the player hits the ball while xGOT (Expected Goals on Target) tries to explain the value of a shot after the hit which allows crediting on-target shots. For example, a shot heading to the top corner is more likely to end up on goal than if it is headed to the middle of the goal. This metric oscillates between 0 and 1 so if a shot goes off-target it will always receive a XGOT of 0.

Finishing xGOT, which is based on the comparison of xG and xGOT, is a metric used to find out how good a player is on finishing. Its value is not simply linear, we have developed a model in order to fairly credit the finishing capacity. It is represented by a positive or negative percentage, depending on if the xGOT value is bigger or smaller than the xG’s value.

Let’s try to show this with an example.

Previous pictures show Alexis Mac-Allister’s 96th-minute free-kick against Leicester City. Because of the shot’s characteristics, this shot had 0.03 of xG value.

But given how good Alexis kicked the ball and the zone where the ball got into the goal, xGOT of this shot was 0.31, 10 times bigger than the xG values which credits the awesome shot (after the kicking the ball).

The finishing map also shows the total Finishing xGOT of the player in the present season (Premier League 2022/2023). The relation between the sum of xG (0.2) and xGOT (0.4) produces a value of +58.7% of Finishing xGOT which means that the Argentinian midfielder has added value to his goal chances thanks to the quality of his finishing actions.

League Average Comparison

A new section Compare with League Average appears in a players’ profile Performance tab, which allows you to compare their current performance with the same position average stats of a certain league. Under the Settings section there is a Templates tab, which lets a user create Radar Templates, and now it also allows to create Seasons Templates. This feature only requires a name and the desired seasons to include in it. These templates can later be used to filter easily in Player Ranking and Player Scout sections.
